I was under the flight path of one of these once when they were landing and it was the most ridiculously loud aircraft i’ve ever heard lol.

My uncle flew these when he was still in the AF. He flew it to Edwards and invited family to tour the inside of it. As you might expect, the interior of these things is not very comfortable and there isn’t very much room to move. At the time their rear-facing radar capabilities and countermeasures worked, according to my uncle, about “20% of the time.” The idea was not to be seen at all and be quick about it at very low altitude. If a missile got off at all you were probably going to not have a very good rest of your 5 minutes of life. Needless to say this was vastly improved over time and, like many classics, has proven its worth beyond its expected lifespan.
